Psychotherapy

NLP was created following an extensive study of years of transcripts of the most successful Therapists of the time, by breaking down and modelling the skills that meant their work was efficient and effective for their clients. This work was then extended into other areas, such as business, sport, creativity etc. and also modelling how successful students learn, retain and apply information.

Its creators believed that all behaviour had structure. Therefore a new structure, or program, modelled on the structures of those who were successful in their field, could be applied to create success. The same applies to the processes involved in fear responses/phobias, to give just one example, which can be modified and "restructured".

The term Neuro Linguistic Programming was created to encompass the principles of the structure of the techniques

Neuro - in this case referring to how the mind and body interact

Linguistic - in this case referring to the insights into a person’s thinking that can be obtained by careful attention to their use of language

Programming - in this case referring to the study of the thinking and behavioural patterns or ‘programmes’ which people use in their daily lives.

I have found NLP to be a very powerful tool to use alongside hypnotherapy for helping to make positive life changes.
